Between December 2010 and January 2011, BlueScope Steel supplied approximately 40,000 tonnes of hot rolled coil to OneSteel Oil and Gas, Kembla Grange and a further 25,000 tonnes to Orrcon Steel's Unanderra pipe mill for conversion into 457mm diameter API 5L X70 grade pipe.
The converted steel was used in the 935 km South West Queensland Pipeline Expansion (or QSN3) Project. The balance of the pipe for the project was imported from JFE.
The QSN 3 Project incorporates the looping construction of the 937 km, 450 mm diameter SWQP, which runs between Wallumbilla in South East Queensland and Moomba in South Australia, and the QSN Link Pipeline. The expansion is expected to increase the pipeline’s capacity from approximately 168 TJ/d to in excess of 380 TJ/d.
